UGA announced Tuesday (3/27/12) that they will be shutting down the Tate Center post office. The university has operated the Post Office under USPS contract since 1989 and the location has been staffed by UGA employees not USPS employees. The USPS current pays UGA $160,000 annually to run the office and deliver mail on campus but the contract was recently reevaluated down to $19,000 per year. Of the current 1,078 P.O. Boxes currently available for rent, only 108 are in use.
